The Breeders' Cup is a prestigious annual event in thoroughbred horse racing, showcasing some of the best racehorses from around the world. Recently, this spectator sport has embraced the digital age by integrating virtual reality (VR) technologies to enhance the experience and promote attendance. As a result, fans can now enjoy a 360° view of the race using a VR headset.
The Approach
Working in a virtual setting presented unique challenges due to changes in lighting, transitioning graphics, and 3-D visuals. Because the Breeders' Cup takes place over several days, it was necessary to create graphics that seamlessly blended into the virtual environment. This was accomplished through the use of multiple graphics that adapted to the live broadcast. In addition, a supplemental advertisement was created to encourage the digital audience to participate.
