PNC Park is home to the Pittsburgh Pirates, a Major League baseball team who competes in the National League Central Division. The stadium’s advertisements promote the partnerships that help support their business. One of these partners is State Farm Insurance which has been offering home and auto insurance since 1922. It is the largest property, casualty, and auto insurance provider in the United States.

The Approach

In exchange for their support, State Farm would be featured throughout PNC Park via large display ads behind home plate and on LED panels around the stadium. It was necessary to research both companies to identify their shared characteristics. Doing so would allow State Farm Insurance to seamlessly integrate their message into the baseball park. Being safe is a common interest shared in baseball lingo as well as insurance promotions. As an additional connection, the secondary design pays homage to Lanny Frattare who is recognized as the Pittsburgh Pirates’ iconic spokesperson.
